  • Experiencing Facebook envy? Turns out, your friends ARE more popular than you (and probably richer and happier, too).
  • The complete guide to LinkedIn etiquette (just in time, too, since there’s been an active conversation about this on ASAE’s Collaborate community recently).
  • Want happier staff members who stick with your organization? Create a culture of caring.
  • Mashable shares 12 web “features” you should immediately remove from your site. (Personal pet peeves? Stock photos and autoplay video. Just stop.)
  • Google Now is coming to Chrome.
  • Associations Now shares some lessons for associations from the Gmail/Google+ kerfluffle.
  • Why doesn’t audio go viral?
  • Once you know the why, the how is not that tough to figure out.
  • Jazzed about the possibilities of Big Data? Turns out data mining without a hypothesis is totally pointless. Or, to put it another way, “ideas only arise by people thinking about causative mechanisms and using them to frame good questions.”
  • Another great piece on what data can – and can’t – do for associations from Naylor’s Association Adviser.
  • Generate more donations by giving people the option NOT to donate? Mind. Blown.
  • Home automation: moving from “just for geeks” to “for just about everyone.”
  • How “do what you love” devalues work and workers. I think this is an incredibly important piece that highlights some critical dislocations and inequities in our current labor markets.
  • Associations Now asks: should you be worried about a competing online community? Answer: depends on your mission.
  • Can applying the honeypot concept keep data safe?
  • In honor of the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the Mac, Associations Now has a great retrospective on Apple’s marketing hits and misses.
  • Jeffrey Cufaude shares lessons for turning a transaction into an opportunity for engagement. (also – YAY! He’s blogging again!)
  • What’s the role of associations in a “gig” economy? (Also, did anyone but me notice that the “Association of the Future” conversation was held among four white men? Somehow, I doubt THAT is the future of associations.)
  • Right brained = creative, left brained = logical? Sorry, that’s a big ole myth.
  • Want to create content that goes viral? Follow Aristotle: ethos, pathos, logos.
  • I haven’t been mentioning the dead-tree stuff I read lately, and I’d like to change that. I’ve recently started a book that was given to me by a dear friend as a Christmas gift – Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers. It’s a fascinating look at what happens to bodies that are donated to science. I’m only a few chapters in, but I’m really enjoying it (as my friend told me she suspected I would when she gave it to me).
